Daring Enterprises & Plot Twists
In 1895, George Polti proposed a list of 36 “dramatic situations” that are the building blocks of stories. These situations or tropes are familiar and predictable. The characters and details change but the story outline is the same. One of those situations is the Daring Enterprise, where the writer sets the character up with a conflict, and then introduces a clever plan that will lead the character to victory.
A Plot Twist changes the story. Plot twists are the sudden, unexpected events that make a reader question everything they thought they knew about the character or direction. There is a disruption in the predictability and we don’t know what will happen next.
During May, our cosmic writers have set the stage for Daring Enterprises and Plot Twists. Maybe you will be the main character. Maybe you’ll find yourself in the role of a supporting actor, or a member of the audience. Action, adventure, and unanticipated curves lie ahead.
My Daring Enterprise & Plot Twist
Today (May 6th) I retired from my full-time work as a Nurse Educator and Manager. My house is for sale, and I am planning to leave New Orleans. These changes will allow me the freedom to pursue other interests and spend more time with family and friends. I want to grow my astrology practice. I’ve found tremendous satisfaction in helping people on a one-to-one basis and will expand my consulting schedule soon. Rather than rushing to a new destination, I am trying to stay flexible and enjoy the journey.

Stories in the May Sky
Eclipses often twist the plot of our lives. May really began with the April 30 New Moon / Solar Eclipse. The Full Moon / Lunar Eclipse is coming quickly on May 15.
In 2022 and 2023, all the eclipses will land in the Taurus and Scorpio parts of your chart. If you have important planets or points in these signs, you will experience unexpected shifts in the related parts of your life. You may see a sudden emergence of new people and situations — or abrupt departures and disappearances.
After the eclipses, the two biggest “stories of the skies” are Mercury’s upcoming retrograde and Jupiter’s entry into Aries, both starting on May 10th. Venus precedes Jupiter, entering Aries on May 2, and Mars will join them on the 24th. It’s bound to be spicy!
- Mercury retrogrades are a common cycle, usually happening about 3 times a year for 3 weeks at a time. As the planet of communications, mental activity, contracts, and travel, Mercury retrogrades can complicate daily life. It’s a good time to slow down and double-check your plans or your words.
- Jupiter’s move into Aries is a bigger deal. It takes Jupiter about 12 years to go around the zodiac, so this is his first visit to Aries since 2011. Reflect on the events of your life that happened in the periods of June - Sept 2010 and Jan - June 2011. While the forces won’t be identical, it might help to anticipate what this move could mean for you. Jupiter often brings new opportunities and expansion to the part of your chart he occupies.
One of my teachers, Sam Reynolds of Unlock Astrology, describes Jupiter as a “match funder”. Have you ever given a donation to a charity when an organization promised to match your donation? Maybe you donated $25 to United Way, and your employer matched it with another $25. That is “match funding”.
Jupiter can be quite generous, but YOU have to invest first! During the next several months, watch for introductions or opportunities, and follow up on what appears. Invest your time, energy, and money in what you want to see grow. Act on faith and Jupiter improves your odds.
Dates to Note:
- May 7: If the sun is shining in your location, go outside and bask in it. Hand out genuine compliments like candy, and you’ll be appreciated in return.
- May 10: Review, revise, reconfirm, etc. Mercury is retrograde until June 3rd.
- May 14-15: This weekend could be harsh for those with fixed sign placements (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio.) The lunar eclipse is square to Saturn and likely to feel heavy. Be gentle with yourself and others.
- May 16: Shift your perspective and look for the potential.
- May 18: Lie low and wait it out. Mars and Neptune together can be confusing. It’s a great day for spiritual practice like prayer and meditation.
- May 25-26: Go for it! Just try not to forget that other people have needs too. You’ll get farther if you listen as well as speak.
May promises to be a busy month, with plot twists at the individual and community level. Stay open and curious. We will get through it together.
