We are off to a hot start in the North American summer. From an astrological perspective, July continues on a slow burn with the potential for an eruption—real or metaphorical—at the end of the month.
The first thing I noticed about July’s planetary activity is that Mercury is in hyperdrive. Mercury is known as the messenger. It’s an archetype related to how we collect, process, and share information. Mercury will be traveling quickly through the last part of Gemini, all of Cancer, and into Leo and talking with all the other planets. Information will flow fast and furiously.
We may not see what is going on. By July 4th, Mercury goes under the Sun’s beams. Once a planet travels within 15 zodiacal degrees of the Sun, it is no longer visible in the sky due to the Sun’s blinding rays. That can mean a good deal of news, including planning and organizational work, takes place out of the public view.
Mercury enters our vision again at the end of the month, just in time for a showdown. Mercury will oppose Saturn, and both planets will be at a 90-degree angle (square) to an intense alliance of Mars, Uranus, and the North Node in Taurus. This transit is sure to bring excitement.
Mars and Uranus can indicate sudden upsets, impulsive behaviors, surprises, rebellions, and energetic eruptions. The North Node increases what it touches. These forces can play out on multiple stages—geological, meteorological, political, and personal.
Sometimes disruptive change is precisely what is needed. You might make sudden, extreme changes to free yourself of a longstanding burden. Or someone in your circle could rebel unexpectedly. Car accidents and road rage are distinct possibilities, so keep a cool head if you drive.
I’d say the hottest days are July 30 - Aug 2.
Golden Hours
Although there are some tense aspects at the beginning and the end of the month, July still offers productive potential. Here are some times I’ve marked on my calendar.
JULY 1, but…: There is a sweet spot between 10:49 am and 4:58 pm when the Moon in Leo slides from a trine with Jupiter to a sextile with Venus. Usually, I would LOVE this energy, but there is a much harsher aspect in the air (Mars square Pluto). Treat yourself like royalty, but tread lightly with other people. Everyone wants to be appreciated.
JULY 10 - 11: The Sagittarius Moon applies to trine Jupiter on Sunday and opposes Venus on Monday at 4:11 pm. Great time to explore, try something new, or share your hopes and dreams.
JULY 23, with a caveat: The Gemini Moon creates a minor grand trine as it sextiles Mercury and Jupiter (who are in a trine relationship). Things can develop rapidly. This can be great for communicating your desires and getting opportunities and results. Do mind your message and keep it kind, as karma may also be swift.
JULY 26, early morning: The Moon in Cancer squares Jupiter at 6:35 am and then joins Venus at 9:54 am. Use these precious moments to nurture yourself or others. Write a gratitude list. Reach out and tell someone you appreciate them.
