Sometimes April comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. This April is not one of those times. Perhaps it comes in like a lion and goes out like a pack of hyenas.

Still, it is Spring. Before I jump into the astrology, I’d like to share a poem with you from James Pearson. I recommend his book, The Wilderness that Shares Your Name.

What Spring Does

Some winters

are so long you

you forget

what spring does

until it does it.

April 1-4

The Sun moved into Aries on March 20, joining Saturn and Neptune. Then, April began with a Full Moon in the opposite sign, Libra. On social media, some folks remarked that it felt like an eclipse. In fact, this Full Moon (13 Libra) landed near the Solar Eclipse of October 2, 2024 (10 Libra). What was your experience?

On Friday, Mercury forms its third trine with Jupiter, wrapping up stories that began in February with the Mercury retrograde. A trine is a harmonious 120-degree angle between planets. Think of it as two planets cooperating rather than competing. Mercury rules communication, contracts, and information; Jupiter rules expansion and aid. Together, this combination helps you resolve paperwork snags, get a straight answer, or close the loop on a drawn-out conversation. If something stalled for you in February, you should see a resolution now.

Venus in Taurus and Jupiter in Cancer may offer opportunities for ease, comfort, or help over the next few weeks. Venus has a challenging aspect with Pluto on April 3, but is relatively unbothered for the next 20 days. Make space for joyful moments, for love and pleasure. Allow yourself to be fully present in those times.

Your move: April is infused with Aries energy, the sign of initiative, courage, and action. That concentrated fire-sign influence does best with an outlet. Use this week to decide where you want to direct the energy before it arrives in full force. Do you have a tough project to push through, a difficult conversation to initiate, or a long-standing situation that finally needs a resolution? Make a list now, and you'll be ready to act.

April 5-11

On Sunday, you may notice the influence of the Sun square Jupiter, which can be energetic and uplifting. It’s a nice start to the week.

There may be a surprising turn of events mid-week (Mars sextile Uranus) that creates heat and pressure as Mars enters Aries on Thursday. Mars in Aries is strong, sharp, powerful, and fast. It turns up the thermostat and reactivates the Saturn-Neptune conjunction.

Anticipate increased speed and pressure, complicated by a lack of clarity. Maybe you feel pressured to make rapid moves without all the information you need. Maybe it seems like a fast-and-furious series of events, with the details and repercussions fuzzy. Or maybe you have a bold, new vision and you’re motivated to start right now.

Your move: Expect a noticeable uptick in urgency and intensity, both personally and in the news. Channel that momentum into purposeful action rather than reactive decisions; the combination of speed and unclear information this week makes it easy to move fast in the wrong direction. If you're curious how Mars in Aries activates your personal chart, that's exactly the kind of question a reading can answer.

Film inspiration: Marty Supreme captures the Aries stellium energy perfectly — fast-paced, competitive, and intense.

April 12-18

The most Aries week of the year! Mars passes between Neptune and Saturn, and Mercury steps into the Aries sauna, too. Mercury is a bit of a chameleon planet, taking on the characteristics of its neighbors, so this is an aggressive Mercury, fast-talking, impulsive, and in-your-face.

It’s a party of six for the New Moon at 28 Aries on Friday. What a line-up! New Moons mark the start of a fresh cycle, and in Aries (the sign of beginnings), this one carries extra weight. The challenge is that Neptune can blur messages, making facts hard to verify and intentions easy to misread. Consider stepping back from social media; the atmosphere is ripe for inflamed rhetoric and hasty reactions that people later regret

Your move: Use the New Moon energy to set an intention for something you want to build over the coming weeks. If the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are prominent in your natal chart, this New Moon could feel especially significant. Reach out if you'd like guidance on how it lands for you personally.

April 19-25

Sunday is a big day as Mars meets Saturn and the Sun leaves Aries for Taurus. Then on Monday, Mercury catches up to Mars. While the exact transits occur on Sunday and Monday, the orb of influence extends to several days before and after those dates.

The three together have strong potential for applications such as demanding mental tasks. If you’ve ever pushed through the last few days before a research paper is due, that’s the sort of thing I have in mind. It can also be an excellent source of fortification or courage to set boundaries, speak up, and confront injustice or errors. Someone who is normally quiet could surprise you with an eruption.

Mars conjunct Saturn in Aries is one of the month's most significant alignments: Mars supplies the force and impulse, while Saturn demands discipline and consequence. At its best, this combination is a determined, unstoppable work ethic. At its most difficult, it can produce confrontations that escalate quickly.

Your move: Slow down and be deliberate with your words and actions. People are operating at a lower tolerance threshold right now. If you do overstep, a direct and sincere apology goes much further than silence.

April 26-30

Although the Aries action may get all the press this month, Uranus entering Gemini is a big freaking deal. You may recall that the planet of “weird” was in Gemini last year, from July 7 to Nov 7. Now it’s back for good. Uranus changing signs is a rare, slow-moving shift that sets the tone for years ahead. Gemini rules communication, information, and the exchange of ideas, so expect ongoing disruption and reinvention in those areas of life.

The last major transit of the month is Mercury’s square to Jupiter in Cancer. Mars will follow in early May, and since the two have been traveling together for several weeks, their aspects may be linked. Jupiter tends to inflate Mercury-Mars combinations, bringing ideological fervor, self-righteous attitudes, or simply magnifying effects.

Your move: This week, pay attention to any surprising news, unusual conversations, or sudden changes of direction. These could be early signals of the Uranus-in-Gemini themes unfolding through the late 2020s and into the 2030s. If you have early degree placements in mutable signs, Uranus will encourage your authenticity and experimentation. Take note of any impulses for change or new interests that emerge this week.

Golden Hours

These are some of my favorite days in April, based on the Moon's moves.

Friday, April 3: The Scorpio Moon craves intimate and authentic connections, and Venus-Pluto lovemaking can be off the charts. If you have this opportunity, snag it.

Wednesday, April 9: There is a last-quarter Capricorn Moon connected to Venus and Jupiter. Mars enters Aries and can give you just the push you need to complete a project.

Tuesday, April 14: Between 10:30 and 1 pm, the Moon in Pisces makes lovely aspects to Jupiter and Venus. Schedule an early lunch at a nice restaurant or go for a walk in the park. Stop and smell the roses, or whatever is blooming in your area.
